Beware of underwater fires! Why does the Chicago Fire Department have a scuba team? I understand search and rescue, but shouldn't that be organized under some other agency? Are they responsible for putting out fires on the mega-yachts in Belmont Harbor? Sounds like one of the better jobs in the city.

The fire department has a scuba team because our job is to rescue people, plain and simple. There are 26 miles of lakefront here and the largest boating community in the midwest. When people fall through the ice, drive their boats up on the rocks or any other of the hundreds of water based emergencies that occur yearly it is us who respond. People think the coast guard will come and get them or the police. Not quite true in this town laddies. You won't get a better water-based emergency response anywhere. We train hard and make saves. I challenge you to find a better scuba team out there.
